This is deeper than white grievance politics<\/h3>\n<p>Biden, though predictably winning over most Americans of color,\u00a0<a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/interactive\/2020\/11\/politics\/election-analysis-exit-polls-2016-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">generally underperformed Hillary Clinton<\/a>\u00a0with those voters, according to some preliminary polling.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u2026<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s easy for me to understand how a white person living in a homogenous rural town could have such praise for Trump. Yet it\u2019s\u00a0<a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2020-10-17\/ice-cube-black-men-trump-biden-voter-cwba\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">harder to wrap my brain around it<\/a>\u00a0coming from a Black person living in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, how is this even possible?<\/p>\n<p>While I don\u2019t know the answer, I do know that, we \u2014 both as a state and as a country \u2014 need to figure it out.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Biden in 2020, after four years of Trump as president, generally underperforms <span class=\"\" style=\"white-space: nowrap;\">Hillary Clinton<\/span> with voters of color. California, and the <span class=\"\" style=\"white-space: nowrap;\">United States<\/span>, need to figure out how it is possible for a Black \u2013\u00a0with a capital &#8218;B&#8216; \u2013\u00a0person living in <span class=\"\" style=\"white-space: nowrap;\">Los Angeles<\/span> to vote for Trump? This suggestion is made after the <span class=\"\" style=\"white-space: nowrap;\">November 2020<\/span> election?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/election-2020-joe-biden-donald-trump-race-and-ethnicity-virus-outbreak-f01f9debbfc70a8fc47a097c01e027f7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Associated Press<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span class=\"\" style=\"font-family: sans-serif; font-size: larger;\">With another Florida loss, Democrats begin second guessing<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Perhaps only in Florida is a loss by fewer than 4 percentages points considered a public drubbing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-61 Component-p-0-2-52\">In a state famous for razor-thin margins, the size of former Vice President Joe Biden\u2019s loss to President Donald Trump was humiliating for Democrats and sent many searching for answers to how they failed to close the deal with voters \u2014 again.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-61 Component-p-0-2-52\">Democrats zeroed in on two clear explanations: Biden didn\u2019t connect with the state\u2019s Latino voters, performing particularly poorly with Cuban voters in South Florida. They also second-guessed the party\u2019s decision to freeze in-person organizing during the worst of the pandemic, a decision that set them back in reaching voters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cClearly, Biden was not able to capture the imagination of the Florida electorate and create the type of enthusiasm to go out and vote for Biden like Trump did with his base of supporters in the state,\u201d said Fernand Amandi, a Miami-based Democratic pollster. \u201cIt\u2019s an unacceptable record of futility. What makes it so vexing is that the problems that need to be fixed are so apparent. But they just don\u2019t get fixed.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Whose imagination <em>did<\/em> Biden capture?
