Remarkably, even amid the pandemic, roughly <span class=\"\" style=\"white-space: nowrap;\">30 million<\/span> Americans went\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/aspe.hhs.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/private\/pdf\/265041\/trends-in-the-us-uninsured.pdf\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">without health insurance<\/a>, exposing them to potentially ruinous medical debt.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-s23rjr\">\u201cIt\u2019s also really interesting how often the messaging is: talk to your doctor, talk to someone you trust,\u201d said Aron. \u201cYet, we don\u2019t really acknowledge how many people don\u2019t have a doctor, or a doctor they have a trust-based relationship with them\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Even people relatively well insulated from societal ills, live shorter, sicker lives than counterparts in Europe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-s23rjr\">\u201cThat is, Americans with healthy behaviors or those who are white, insured, college-educated, or in upper-income groups appear to be in worse health than similar groups in comparison countries,\u201d the 2013 report found.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-s23rjr\">Research since this report has elaborated on these findings, notably including recent research on how\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2021\/jun\/23\/covid-pandemic-us-life-expectancy-decline-study\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">American life expectancy<\/a>\u00a0has\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2018\/nov\/29\/americans-life-expectancy-down-drug-overdoses-suicides-rise-report\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">declined<\/a><\/em>\u00a0while peer nations saw continued gains.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Guardian: Americans know intuitively that their healthcare is expensive, frustrating and often unfair.
