The Montreal Symphony Orchestra said in a statement it would be \u201cinappropriate\u201d for 20-year old Alexander Malofeev to perform a series of concertos this week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1wj398p\">Malofeev, who has family members in Ukraine, has previously criticized Russia\u2019s \u201cterrible and bloody\u201d decision to invade the country. The Montreal symphony said it would welcome back Malofeev \u201cwhen the context allows it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, the Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra announced that it had decided to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/uk-news\/2022\/mar\/09\/cardiff-philharmonic-orchestra-removes-tchaikovsky-over-ukraine-conflict\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">exclude Tchaikovsky\u2019s 1812 Overture<\/a>\u00a0from a performance next week.
