The\u00a0<a title=\"Old Grodno Castle\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Old_Grodno_Castle\">Old<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"New Castle in Grodno\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_Castle_in_Grodno\">New Castles<\/a>\u00a0were often visited by the Commonwealth monarchs including famous\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Stephen B\u00e1thory of Poland\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stephen_B%C3%A1thory_of_Poland\">Stephen B\u00e1thory of Poland<\/a>\u00a0who made a royal residence there. Kings\u00a0<a title=\"Casimir IV Jagiellon\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Casimir_IV_Jagiellon\">Casimir IV Jagiellon<\/a>\u00a0and Stephen B\u00e1thory died there. Grodno was one of the places where the\u00a0<a title=\"Sejm of the Polish\u2013Lithuanian Commonwealth\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sejm_of_the_Polish%E2%80%93Lithuanian_Commonwealth\">Sejms of the Polish\u2013Lithuanian Commonwealth<\/a>\u00a0were held, incl. the\u00a0<a title=\"Grodno Sejm\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Grodno_Sejm\">last Sejm in the history of the Commonwealth<\/a>\u00a0in 1793.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Grodno to me has always been the drab place where I was held in custody in a filthy railway station before being deported. I had contacted several tourist agencies in <span class=\"\" style=\"white-space: nowrap;\">January 2022<\/span> with an eye to altering this association, but alas, events of February interfered.
