Mainstream German media argues from authority, from innuendo \u2014 she&#8217;s obviously wrong because, well, she&#8217;s obviously wrong, can&#8217;t you see that? Anyone and everyone can see that. And the right-wing likes her: what more proof do you need? There is a satisfied self-righteousness at play which is very <span class=\"\" style=\"white-space: nowrap;\">culture-specific<\/span>. It&#8217;s tribal behavior, divorced from rationality, devoid of facts.<\/p>\n<p>Christoph Ruf&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nd-aktuell.de\/artikel\/1171099.ukraine-baerbocks-fehlende-bescheidenheit.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">piece<\/a> captures this phenomenon well, citing Franziska Davies&#8216; calling J\u00fcrgen Habermas\u2019 essay in \u00bbS\u00fcddeutsche Zeitung\u00ab \u00bbd\u00e4mlich\u00ab and \u00bbSchnodder\u00ab. Ruf speaks of \u00bbfehlende Bescheidenheit\u00ab but it&#8217;s much more than that: there&#8217;s a real absence of logic. This reminds me of similar attacks on <span class=\"\" style=\"white-space: nowrap;\">Susan Sontag<\/span> or <span class=\"\" style=\"white-space: nowrap;\">Noam Chomsky<\/span> during <span class=\"\" style=\"white-space: nowrap;\">Gulf War II<\/span> in the US. You can agree or disagree with the arguments made, but what are you thinking when you call one of these people &#8222;na\u00efve&#8220;?
