The politicians who\u00a0lied<\/a>\u00a0to us \u2014\u00a0George W. Bush<\/a>,\u00a0Dick Cheney<\/a>, Condoleezza Rice<\/a><\/span>,\u00a0Hillary Clinton<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Joe Biden<\/a>\u00a0to name but a few \u2014<\/span> extinguished<\/a> millions of lives, including thousands of American lives, and left Iraq along with Afghanistan, Syria, Somalia, Libya and Yemen in chaos. They exaggerated or fabricated conclusions from intelligence reports to mislead the public. The\u00a0big lie<\/a>\u00a0is taken from the playbook of totalitarian regimes.<\/p>\n

The cheerleaders in the media for war \u2014\u00a0Thomas Friedman<\/a>,\u00a0David Remnick<\/a>, Richard Cohen<\/a>,\u00a0George Packer<\/a>,\u00a0William Kristol<\/a>,\u00a0Peter Beinart<\/a>,\u00a0Bill Keller<\/a>,\u00a0Robert Kaplan<\/a>,\u00a0Anne Applebaum<\/a>,\u00a0Nicholas Kristof<\/a>,\u00a0Jonathan Chait<\/a>,\u00a0Fareed Zakaria<\/a>,\u00a0David Frum<\/a>,\u00a0Jeffrey Goldberg<\/a>,\u00a0David Brooks<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Michael Ignatieff<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 were used to amplify the lies and discredit the handful of us, including\u00a0Michael Moore<\/a>,\u00a0Robert Scheer<\/a> and Phil Donahue<\/a>, who opposed the war. These courtiers were often motivated more by careerism than idealism. They did not lose their\u00a0megaphones<\/a>\u00a0or lucrative speaking fees and book contracts once the lies were exposed, as if their crazed diatribes did not matter. They served the centers of power and were rewarded for it.<\/p>\n

Many of these same pundits are pushing further escalation of the war in Ukraine, although most know as little about Ukraine or NATO\u2019s provocative<\/a> and unnecessary<\/a> expansion<\/a> to the borders of Russia as they did about Iraq.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
