{"id":23349,"date":"2024-02-02T08:49:53","date_gmt":"2024-02-02T07:49:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mwehle.eu\/wp\/?p=23349"},"modified":"2024-02-02T08:50:30","modified_gmt":"2024-02-02T07:50:30","slug":"zaluzhny","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wehle.ee\/wp\/?p=23349","title":{"rendered":"Zaluzhny"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/seymourhersh.substack.com\/p\/the-president-vs-the-general\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Seymour Hersh<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Zelensky\u2019s desire to fire his commanding general is the result, some Americans believe, of his knowledge that Zaluzhny had continued to participate\u2014whether directly or through aides is not known\u2014in secret talks since last fall with American and other Western officials on how best to achieve a ceasefire and negotiate an end to the war with Russia. It was those talks that led Zaluzhny to declare to the\u00a0<em>Economist<\/em>\u00a0that the war was stalemated. Zelensky has talked of mobilizing 500,000 more soldiers, via another draft, and to try again this spring to launch another counteroffensive against the Russians.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u03a9\u00a0\u03a9\u00a0\u03a9<\/p>\n<p>Zelensky must be told: \u201cYou\u2019ve got to get rid of corruption before we do anything more.\u201d The second step is something that does not exist today in Ukraine: a serious audit of all government funding. The official said Zelensky should consider the billions he needs \u201cas our money, as an investment with all of the rules\u201d for its disbursement \u201cto be laid out. and followed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last year CIA Director William Burns secretly flew to Kyiv to warn Zelensky <span class=\"\" style=\"white-space: nowrap;\">face-to-face<\/span> that Washington was aware of his personal corruption and his unwillingness to dismiss any of the dozens of officials\u2014who were named by Burns\u2014known to be deeply involved in diverting defense funds to personal accounts. Burns also told the president, as I\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/seymourhersh.substack.com\/p\/trading-with-the-enemy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>, that there was anger among some of his subordinates because he was taking too large a cut of the spoils.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe third step,\u201d the official said, is for Zelensky to use the funds \u201cto build infrastructure and the economy. The fourth and final step is to defend your country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u03a9\u00a0\u03a9\u00a0\u03a9<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course, Zelensky knew that Zaluzhny was dealing with the West,\u201d the official said. \u201cBut Zelensky will be a dead man walking with the army, which is in favor of the general. He\u2019s going to have a mutiny on his hands.&#8220;<\/p>\n<p>The current plan evolved among experts in the intelligence and military bureaucracy without input from the White House, the State Department, or the National Security Council. \u201cIt stems from the American and Ukraine general staffs and it is putting investments\u201d from private industry, the official said, \u201cand not solely government funding and grants as the ticket out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPutin, too,\u201d the official said, \u201cis looking for a way out.
