{"id":378,"date":"2016-06-13T15:39:05","date_gmt":"2016-06-13T22:39:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.wehle.org\/?p=378"},"modified":"2016-06-13T15:39:05","modified_gmt":"2016-06-13T22:39:05","slug":"orlando-shooting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wehle.ru\/wp\/?p=378","title":{"rendered":"Orlando Shooting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/president-obama-orlando-deadliest-shooting-210902947.html\">In a press conference<\/a>, President Obama said the shooting at the Orlando nightclub Pulse, which claimed 51 lives so far, marked the deadliest in United States history.<\/p>\n<p>I think he means the deadliest by non-state actors:<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Waco_siege\">Waco Siege<\/a>, February 28 &#8211; April 19, 1993, killed 76.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tulsa_race_riot\">Tulsa massacre<\/a>, May 31 &#8211; June 1, 1921, killed an estimated 300.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wounded_Knee_Massacre\">Wounded Knee Massacre<\/a>, December 29, 1890, killed over 150.<\/p>\n<p>NPR&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/thetwo-way\/2016\/06\/13\/481884291\/putting-deadliest-mass-shooting-in-u-s-history-into-some-historical-context\">discussion<\/a> of their decision on language regarding the event includes these interesting thoughts:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A gunman opening fire on a public space is what &#8222;mass shooting&#8220; has come to mean these days, Duwe said.
